Initial cost of camera system makes a lot of difference as it safe more money over the duration of time

basic types are:

(A)  Analog/ Traditional system

  1. Less initial cost
  2. Average quality
  3. Phone App crashing normal
  4. Night vision quality not good— NOT recommended

(B) HD/TVI cameras

  1. Just few more $$ adds up to initial cost
  2. Better Quality
  3. Good Phone Application.
  4. Good Night vision
  5. Not recommended for residential as recommended wire is hard to run in confine spaces , moreover wire is not flexible and wire life is short.

(C) IP cameras

  1. Initial cost more but more saving over time.
  2. Best quality.
  3. Best Phone Application
  4. Best Night Vision
  5. Recommended use for both residential and commercial use

TVI/HD cameras don’t work on internet protocol so they are not as stable as IP cameras ,But still they can be good solution in some cases:

  1. Good for indoor use in small clinics , where long wire runs not required.
  2. Good for situations where Internet speed is very slow.
  3. Single story houses where running co-axiel cable is not an issue
  4. Because these are lower resolution cameras as compared to IP cameras so its good for situations where long recording time required.
  5. Good for situations where climate is not harsh.

IP camera  Technology

IP cameras works on same technology as on internet works ie “Internet Protocol”

Advantages of IP cameras

  1. More stable ie Less service calls
  2. More Resolution
  3. Easy to expand through networking
  4. Audio and video signal can encrypt over the wire , so more secure
  5. More intelligent system.

Dis-advantages of IP cameras

  1. More Initial setup cost
  2. More storage requirements for high resolution cameras.
  3. Well trained installer required.

Analog Cameras Technology

Analog cameras works on traditional technology

Advantages of Analog cameras

  1. Low Initial setup cost
  2. less storage requirements.
  3. The technology is getting better
  4. More Technicians available.

Dis-advantages of Analog Cameras

  1. Image quality is not as good as IP cameras
  2. Less coverage Area.
  3. Less stable- shaky connections
  4. No encription
  5. More cables required.
NVR vs DVR
DVR stands for Digital Video Recorder, whereas NVR stands for Network Video Recorder. The difference between NVR and DVR is how they process video data. DVR stands for Digital Video Recorder, whereas NVR stands for Network Video Recorder. The difference between NVR and DVR is how they process video data.

NVR ( Network video Recorder)

  1. Camera type – IP cameras
  2. Cable Type – Ethernet , Cat5e, Cat 6
  3. video processing is completed at the camera before it is transmitted. NVR recorders are only used for storing and viewing the footage.
  4. video quality is better than compared to a DVR at the same resolution.
  5. NVR systems are inherently more flexible because security cameras don’t necessarily have to be physically connected directly to the recorder.

DVR(Digital Video recorder)

  1. Camera Type – Analog cameras
  2. Cable Type – Coaxial BNC Cable
  3. DVR recorders rely on a hardware chipset known as an AD encoder, which is responsible for processing the raw data streaming from the camera into legible video recordings
  4. The analog signal results in a lower quality image compared to NVR systems
  5. DVR systems also have less flexible mounting solutions, because routing coaxial cable can be more difficult in tight situations and a power outlet is required for each camera.

Wireless cameras can never be fully wireless as they also need atleast one wire to get power from the source..

THEN why we need wireless cameras if still there is need to run power cables for them ?

ANSWER

  1. wireless systems are ideal for renters or businesses in temporary locations.
  2. Easy Installation
  3. Portable solution.
  4. Good for Testing purposes.

Limitations

  1. Not a stable solutions as change in wifi settings will affects the service.
  2. Possible interference from nearby devices.
  3. can be hacked
  4. More expensive.
  5. Dependent on wireless signal strength.
  6. More susceptible to power outages

Finding the right balance between video quality and network bandwidth and storage capacity can be one of the biggest challenges of using IP cameras.

Bandwidth :

Bandwidth is  the amount of data that can be transmitted in a fixed amount of time. For digital devices, the bandwidth is usually expressed in bits per second(bps) or bytes per second.

Storage capacity :

A video image captured by an HD IP camera is roughly four times the size of an image captured by an analog camera. That means it requires four times the bandwidth and storage capacity

Maximum storage capacity of NVR and DVR varies acoording to model and size.

Bit rate

Bit rate is closer to bandwidth, but it is often per host, or source to destination devices.

Setting high frame rates and bit rates on your cameras can give you clear video, but it can also quickly eat up storage space and even clog your network.

Setting rates too low could result in poor quality video but you will get more storage space.

Network setup

With proper network and video settings can resolve all the issues and helps to provide high resolution picture with enough storage space , without overloading the network.

Number of Cameras vs cost
How many number of cameras you need and how much it will cost you? How many number of cameras you need and how much it will cost you?

For Example in Residential Surveillance system

Four cameras and 4 channel NVR with 1 TBB storage capacity is good for residential use.

Camera 1 – Covers main door

Camera 2 – Covers Driveway

Camera 3 – Covers Backyard

Camera 4 – Covers Side entry

How cost will change with number of cameras?

If you need 5 cameras in house then you need 8 channel NVR with 2 TBB storage capacity

With just addition of one camera , we need 1TBB extra storage capacity and 8 CH NVR instead of 4 CH.

NVR /DVR channel capacity

Recorders comes in models like

  1. Four CH
  2. Eight CH
  3. Sixteen CH
  4. Sixty Four CH
  5. Then server editions
